I had the same problem with my parents head stones. Many stones in the cemetery are covered with a rusty orange coloured lichen and I emailed the headstone company that installed the head rock on my parents graves for advice. They recommended using a h2o and bleach solution and a potent castor. I was worried almost damaging the grass but they recommended doing it in the fall and just not over doing the cleaning process with to much bleach and h2o. I used a solution of 1/4 cup of bleach , a few drops of dish detergent and filled the residuum with water. Information technology was easiest to have the solution to the cemetery in 2 liter plastic drink bottles with spiral caps . I too take several bottles of articulate water to rinse off everything when I am washed. Nearly cemeteries don't offering places to get water on site. It took some scrubbing and needs to be washed every few years just does work. The stuff is so gross and STUBORN Every bit ANYTHING - it runs rampant in our cemetery. Even stones in full sun are covered.

Thanks Peggy, that's sweet of you lot to say! My married man is a fantastic, hardworking guy and my in-laws are some of the most wonderful humans on earth. My in-laws used to take care of trimming the shrub, and at that time at that place wasn't a lichen issue. They are in their mid 70's at present and simply not upwardly to the chore of maintaining the gravesite, so I do it. Sadly, I didn't have a chance to meet my husband's grandmother, but from the stories he shares with our kids and me, she's someone I would take liked. A lot. I simply left it for virtually 30 seconds then rinsed it off and the stone looked great. I was worried afterwards considering I read that all kinds of things could happen if you use the incorrect kind of cleaner (white or blackness deposits)., simply it was fine, and it nonetheless looks good a year later. I wouldn't apply it more than once a year if that. The stone is 20 +years old in a flat marker department, so it gets actually dirty. Information technology is the same colour as yours.
